Margo Gladding, MS, CNS, LDN – Herbalist, Nutritionist
Margo’s impressive knowledge base is the result of a unique blend of educational and professional experience. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master of Science degree in Herbal Medicine, providing her with a strong foundation in the history, science, and practice of herbal medicine. Margo is also certified as a Nutrition Specialist and is a licensed nutritionist. Since joining Village Green in 2005, Margo has been talking with customers in the store, providing private consultations, and researching and writing educational materials to help people learn more about nutrition and herbs. Margo counsels both children and adults with a wide range of health challenges. Her recommendations are always client specific and include the use of herbs and supplements, as well as dietary and lifestyle suggestions. Margo has recently been appointed by the Governor to serve on the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice.
Paula Gallagher, B.A.Sc. – Nutrition Counselor
Paula is a highly qualified and experienced nutrition counselor on the staff at Village Green Apothecary. Paula graduated from the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, and holds a degree in Applied Human Nutrition. She has since worked both in Canada and the United States as a nutrition and wellness counselor in a variety of professional settings. Paula feels it is fundamentally important to provide nutritional education to people on how to maximize their health through diet, exercise, and supplementation.
Amanda Buxbaum, MS, CNS, LDN – Nutritionist
Amanda Buxbaum is a licensed nutritionist with a Masters Degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport with a special interest in fitness, weight loss and wellness. Amanda’s approach is gentle and patient-centered with the goal of maximizing joy and self-direction as central to the goal of healing and health. Her background as an actuarial analyst gives her the analytical edge when studying the current health research and problem-solving with patients. Amanda is also a Certified Nutrition Specialist and is in her fifth year of teaching nutrition at Montgomery College. Amanda is the point person at Village Green for SpectraCell testing.
Sara Keough, MS, CNS, LDN – Nutritionist
Sara Keough is a nutrition expert with the nationally-recognized Board for Certification of Nutrition Specialists, often deemed the “gold standard” accreditation for advanced nutrition professionals. After earning a BS in Biology in her hometown of Denver, CO, she relocated to enroll at the Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH), where she completed her Master’s degree in Nutrition & Integrative Health. Sara has attended numerous nutrition conferences, including the 2015 Old Mutual Health Convention in Cape Town, South Africa. Through these experiences, she has expanded her knowledge on how to approach various health-related issues including digestive problems, diabetes, thyroid conditions, hormonal imbalances, and detoxification issues. She is also specially trained in SpectraCell Micronutrient testing and is the primary point-person at Village Green Apothecary for interpretation of SpectraCell reports. Sara’s training and clinical experience in holistic wellness have helped enhance her natural skills as a compassionate, caring, and intuitive nutrition counselor who works with each of her clients to help them build a strong foundational diet to facilitate the innate healing process from within..
Dr. Kevin Passero – Naturopathic Doctor
Dr. Kevin Passero is a licensed naturopathic doctor who specializes in women’s health, thyroid and adrenal dysfunction, mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, and integrative oncology support. Dr. Passero’s training allows him to fully understand both holistic and conventional treatment approaches to illness and disease and focus on discovering the root cause. He has been part of the Village Green team for over 8 years, offering his consultation services here at a significantly discounted rate. He also hosts Village Green’s Essentials of Healthy Living radio program Sundays from 10-11am on AM 1500 Federal News Radio.
Dr. Passero currently serves as the President of the Maryland Association of Naturopathic Physicians. He is an active member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, as well as the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Dr. Passero received his naturopathic training at the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, after receiving his undergraduate degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Colorado.
Dr. Keri Marshall – Naturopathic Doctor
Dr. Keri Marshall is a licensed naturopathic doctor practicing integrative family medicine and specializing in pediatrics, women’s medicine and chronic disease management. Dr. Marshall has published several scientific papers and magazine articles, written a book on proteins and amino acids, and appears regularly in the media. Dr. Marshall has served as a scientific adviser for Citizens for Health and Medical Director for Gaia Herbs. She frequently promotes childhood nutrition and a reduction in childhood obesity, and has served on a national level for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. She has also worked locally as a nutrition expert in her public school district. Dr. Marshall serves on several advisory boards and is currently the Chief Medical Officer for Nordic Naturals.
Dr. Marshall received her naturopathic medical degree from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, a Masters in Epidemiology from SUNY at Buffalo, and Bachelor of Science from George Washington University in Washington, DC.
Dr. Duffy MacKay – Naturopathic Doctor
Dr. MacKay is a licensed naturopathic doctor and was a co-owner and practitioner in a family-owned New Hampshire integrative medicine practice for 7 years. In addition to his hands-on experience as a practitioner in the field of integrative medicine, he spent 8 years working as a medical consultant for companies in the dietary supplement industry. Currently, Dr. MacKay leads Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association representing dietary supplement manufacturers and ingredient suppliers. Dr. MacKay also serves on several advisory and editorial boards including American Botanical Council, United States Pharmacopeia, Integrative Medicine and Clinicians Journal, and others. Dr. MacKay maintains a part-time practice where he enjoys assisting patients integrate naturopathic medicine into their lives to support health, wellness, and chronic disease management.
Dr. MacKay received his naturopathic medical degree from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon, and Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Molly Carr, CRNP, MS – Nurse Practitioner, Herbalist
Molly has extensive experience with chronic pain, sleep/ fatigue issues and nutrition/ digestion issues. She has worked as a nurse practitioner for 20 years and an herbalist for 10 years. She has always had a strong commitment to lifestyle counseling and promoting wellness in people living with health conditions associated with stress and chronic disease. From 1998 to 2003, she worked with people living with metabolic syndrome, diabetes and high blood pressure, through Kaiser Permanente. In 2006, Molly earned a Master's Degree in Herbal Medicine after 3 years of full-time study at the Tai Sophia Institute under the directorship of Simon Mills, an internationally recognized herbalist and research writer. Since 2006, she has worked with Dr. Michael April & Associates, an integrated healthcare practice with specialties in chronic pain, fibromyalgia and sleep issues. Molly has extensive experience with practical nutrition and can counsel people who have nutritional deficiencies and weight management issues.
Carmen Ugás, CHHC – Holistic Health and Nutrition Coach
Carmen graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition through Columbia University’s Teachers College and is certified by the American Association for Drugless Practitioners. She has worked closely with prominent integrative medical practitioners in the Washington, DC area and has been trained in FirstLine Therapy, a clinically proven lifestyle program recommended by leading health organizations. Carmen worked for four years as a nutrition counselor at Village Green and continues to guide her clients to discover the underlying causes of their ailments, be proactive about their health, and assess nutritional deficiencies. Carmen successfully manages her rheumatoid arthritis and her daughter’s ADHD by incorporating a therapeutic lifestyle with food as medicine and the use of nutritional supplements. Carmen is available to consult with clients in person in Lima, Perú, and around the world via Skype.
Dart Clancy, MS, CNS, LDN
Dart Clancy’s passion for the healing power of nature began in 1995 while working at a local health food store. During that time, Dart began to study and explore herbs and traditional healing modalities. In 2007, Dart received her Master of Science degree in Herbal Medicine and began practicing in Columbia, MD, at Clinical Herbal Care, a private practice focusing on herbal medicine and nourishing foods. After receiving her Certified Nutrition Specialist designation and nutrition license in 2009, she joined the staff at Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH) and in 2013, she began working in the Nutrition Department as a Clinical Supervisor. Through her experience and training, Dart has learned one central fundamental — healing comes from within. She believes herbal medicine, diet, and lifestyle are essential to support a lifetime of wellness. Dart focuses her practice on supporting those with chronic imbalances, such as autoimmune disorders.
