April is around the corner and hopefully so is the nice weather! This is a great time do some spring cleaning for your body, and not just your house. Cleanses can be difficult and limiting, but there are simple things that anyone can do to feel more energized and healthy. By following a cleanse filled with high fiber and nutrient-dense foods, you give your body the opportunity to “clean out the pipes.”
Here are some tips to get you on your way:
1. Skip the caffeine: Coffee and sodas are acidic, as well as act as diuretics. Instead of coffee, I recommend drinking herbal tea, green tea or white tea for the antioxidant effect and to help you get rid of any coffee withdrawal headaches.
2. Eat lots of colorful foods: Fruits and vegetables are high in fiber, filled with minerals, vitamins and plant chemicals called phytonutrients that prevent and even help treat disease. (more…)

If you want to ensure that you’re taking the most scrupulously produced supplements, you may want to consider kosher supplements. What makes them the best?
Yesterday, I wrote about the importance of multivitamins. Well…Village Green Apothecary also offers kosher multivitamins from brands like Maxi Health, Solgar and Bluebonnet.

Even the most conscientious, healthy eaters may have a hard time getting all the vitamins and minerals required to prevent disease and illness. Eating right is the first line of defense against all bugs, but a good multivitamin/mineral can provide some assurance against nutrient deficient diseases like rickets and scurvy. Look for a multivitamin that contains at least 100% of the required daily allowance (RDA) for vitamins A, C, D, E and your B vitamins. Choose one that is iron-free unless you are pregnant, or have been tested for iron deficiency.
Taking a multivitamin more than once per day can help keep water-soluble vitamins in your system longer. Look for one that is designed to take multiple times during the day. Take your multivitamin with meals and a full glass of water to ensure proper digestion.
If you’d like some help picking out the right multi for you, give Village Green a call at 1-800-869-9159.

This past Friday, Dr. Oz told his viewers what supplements he takes. Not surprisingly, they align very well with what Village Green Apothecary has been saying for years. He particularly targeted women over 40. The supplements he recommends are:
1. Mutlivitamin: Only 1% of the population gets enough essential nutrients from diet alone, so a comprehensive multivitamin/mineral should be part of everyone’s routine. Divided doses are better because you get the most out of them.
2. Calcium: Important for muscles, teeth and bones, many women are not getting enough of this important nutrient. Add magnesium to calcium and you have an important foundation for strong bones. The best way to get calcium is a combination of food sources and supplements. (more…)
