What Do You Do to Show Yourself Some Self Care?

by Debi Silber, The Mojo Coach | July 26, 2011

What do you do to show yourself some self care?

Recently, a hair care company conducted a study involving 3,000 women. While a whopping 84% admitted they let their appearance slide, over 94% revealed that they feel better when they take measures towards their own self care. So, if we feel better when we take the time to care for ourselves, why don’t we make it a priority?

For many people, they just don’t know where to start.

I always recommend starting small and making a few minor changes, which may encourage you to make a few more alterations in the right direction. Here are a few ideas that many of my clients have tried. Choose any one which feels right and motivates you to continue on your wellness journey. (more…)

    Stay Healthy as Seasons Change

by Debi Silber, The Mojo Coach | March 22, 2011

What’s the secret to staying healthy throughout the year? The secret lies in our ability to be flexible and willing to change…just like the seasons.

Different seasons mean different weather, wardrobes, different seasonal fruits available and even different sports to play. It also means that as the days grow shorter or longer, and as the weather gets warmer or colder, we need to stay flexible and adjust our eating habits, exercise routines and lifestyles so we can remain healthy year round. So how do you do that? By starting each season with a customized lifestyle plan around your specific needs, goals, and preferences.

For example, it’s easiest for most of us to live a healthier lifestyle during the spring and summer. We’re showing a little more skin so we’re more aware of our eating habits, we may have access to more fresh fruits and vegetables, the days are longer and more conducive to being active and outside. During nicer weather, we’re also getting more vitamin D from the sun, which offers so many additional health benefits as well. (more…)

Living Green and Healthy: 5 Health Benefits from Going Green

    by Steve Stillwater | February 9, 2011

I spend a fair amount of time on Living Green and Saving Energy describing how to go green and save money as a result. But as important as saving money is for most people, perhaps it is not the most important benefit of a greener lifestyle. Green living can improve your health as well.

Here are five health benefits you can realize from creating a greener lifestyle.

    1. A healthier heart: Regular exercise has obvious health benefits. By walking or riding a bike to replace your car for short trips, you get some cardio exercise and save gas and reduce carbon emissions all at once. Even taking the bus or train will help, since you can walk or bike to and from the bus stop or train station.

    2. A healthier diet: Buying locally-produced food saves on fuel for transporting that food to the market, and smaller local growers are more likely to offer organically-grown produce that is fresher as well. Shopping at farmer’s markets is a good way to find these items, making sure your food is pesticide-free. In addition, reducing consumption of meat lowers your carbon footprint due to the greater amounts of energy, water, and resources used to produce meat compared to vegetables. And eating less red meat is good for almost everyone’s health. (more…)
