What? Men and women think differently! No way. Well, apparently it also holds true for keeping your goals. According to Professor Wiseman, a psychologist at the University of Hertfordshire in the U.K., successful strategies for keeping resolutions are often gender dependent. He found that by using gender-specific methods, an extra 22% of men kept their goals, while an additional 10% of women stuck with theirs.
Men: Apparently, men are more likely to succeed when they set goals for themselves and focus on measuring their progress, rather than the resolution itself. For instance, if the resolution is to lose weight, men are more likely to succeed if they focus on the health results and overall benefits of losing weight.
Women: We have a few more strategies. Writing things down, posting them in visible places (on the fridge door), telling friends our resolutions, and giving ourselves a break if we mess up.
Whatever strategy works for you. Give it a try – what do you have to lose?
