I discovered this little gem when one of my coworkers gave me a sample. Annemarie Borlind has made a unique product that basically makes my skin GLOW. It really does. I use it after cleansing my face in the morning right before I put on my moisturizer. I have super dry skin and the layering of moisture really helps keep my skin radiant. In the summer, I sometimes use it alone. It also smells so good. Well, it smells like oranges, because that’s what it’s made of.
The orange extract is calming, moisturizing, offers effective cell protection against damaging environmental influences, protects the skin from premature aging, and stimulates the production of collagen. That’s not all. It contains lactic Acid L(+) which helps stabilize the skin’s acid mantle and strengthens its resistance, improving the elasticity of the skin with its lasting double effect for immediate skin smoothing. It also contains carrot oil, which encourages blood flow, giving a more youthful appearance.
Independent dermatological studies confirm Orange Blossom Energizer’s beneficial effects: it stimulates cellular activity and protects against environmental damage, gives the skin a special infusion of vitamins enriched with vitamins B5, C and E, and reduces skin irritations caused by stress and other environmental factors. The extreme conditions of climate to which the special variety of Sicilian orange is exposed during its growth and ripening give the fruit exceptional resistance and a first-class protection system, with high concentrations of antioxidant vitamins.

So it really is lice season. After my lice blog a few weeks ago, parents emailed me with stories of lice infestation, and again, my skin starting crawling. One system that I heard about repeatedly was Lice Lifters. This company carries all natural nit and lice fighting products that are safe and VERY effective. In fact, according to happy users, one product in particular, Nit Nanny Mint Spray, can actually be used preventatively! There is an entire system that includes a treatment and solution to go after lice and nits if you do have an infestation.
To learn more about Lice Lifters and their all-natural Nit Nanny products, call Village Green Apothecary at 1-800-869-9159, or you can purchase the products here.

Why are companies still making baby products with harmful chemicals, when they can make them without them? Johnson & Johnson’s baby shampoo sold here in the U.S. and a few other countries contains dioxane and a substance called quaternium-15 that releases formaldehyde. The sneaky thing is that they already make this shampoo without those two ingredients and sell it to countries where the chemicals are banned, according to an international coalition of health and environmental groups.
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics has unsuccessfully been urging Johnson & Johnson – a conglomerate that is the world’s largest supplier of health care products, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals – for 2 ½ years to remove the trace amounts of potentially cancer-causing chemicals. Now the coalition is urging consumers to boycott Johnson & Johnson baby products until the company agrees to remove the chemicals from it’s baby products sold around the world, including in China and the U.K.
The campaign’s new report, “Baby’s Tub is Still Toxic,” was released last Tuesday, when the group launched the boycott via its website, www.safecosmetics.org.
In response, Johnson & Johnson said in a statement that formaldehyde-releasing preservatives are safe and approved by regulators in the U.S. and other countries, but that it is gradually phasing them out of its baby products. It said it is also reformulating baby products to reduce the level of dioxane below detectable levels.
Johnson & Johnson also makes a natural line of products, where it has eliminated dioxane. It also has doubled the price.
Personally, I always check the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Database to see if the products I am using on my toddler and infant are safe. This is an easy thing to do. Although, the baby shampoo I use on my kids costs about four times as much, it is concentrated and I only use a dime-size amount, so I find it lasts a lot longer than traditional baby shampoos. Plus, I believe the costs of using chemicals on your baby are much greater than a price tag.

Recently, a client asked me, “I’m planning a formal party and I’m overwhelmed with details. I want everything to be perfect and I want to look perfect too. What’s the best and quickest way to look great for a black-tie event?”
For those who know me, words like “quick” aren’t usually found with words like “permanent” and the word “perfect” creates unnecessary stress but I gave her a few ideas anyway. Here’s what I suggested:
1. Find time for aerobic activity. It’s a great way to burn calories, lower your stress level and find solutions to some of your party concerns. The rhythmic movement of aerobic activity enables you to become clearly focused and calm; a great mental place to sort out details.
2. For great arms in a strapless dress: Your time is limited so you want to do an activity that gives you more bang for your buck. Push ups work the entire upper body when done correctly. Tricep dips are great for the back of the arms.
3. Eat for sustained energy. Eating nutrient dense foods rich in vitamins and minerals supply your body with quality which shows itself in less bloat, healthier skin and a healthy glow…just as important as finding and wearing the right dress.
4. Next, look for a well fitting but comfortable dress. You don’t want to spend your time readjusting when you could be dancing instead.
5. Hair, makeup, nails, eyebrows, toes, etc. These frilly extras make us feel beautiful.
6.You can also try a little bit of self tanner and/or bronzer. When used appropriately, it can minimize imperfections like uneven skin tone, varicose veins, etc.
7. Get enough sleep and drink plenty of water. It’s a great foundation for beautiful skin and tone.
8. Laugh, smile, have fun, keep things in perspective and remember why you’re celebrating the event in the first place. Remember, no one is looking as closely at you as you are and everything looks and feels better when wrapped with a smile.
Do you have any tips and strategies to help you enjoy your events? I’d love to hear about them, comment and share!
