The Village Green Story

In 1965 two very committed pharmacy doctors named Mickey and Irv opened what was then known as The Apothecary in Bethesda, Maryland. Mickey and Irv’s initial inspiration, along with many years of study and experience in nutritional pharmacology, helped us come to understand that a balance of both traditional and alternative health care could do the most good for the most people. So we created a place for people to come and share in this knowledge, be inspired by it, and find the products essential to pursuing a healthy lifestyle.

As our reputation for knowledge, integrity and expertise grew, so did our business. Over the years much has evolved. Our knowledge has expanded and deepened, as has our devotion to sharing it. Our products have become ever more pure and potent. Our customers have become friends. And our name has changed.

We feel the name Village Green reflects our commitment to our community and our ideals. A village green is typically a centralized green space within a town where people can come together. In the same spirit, our store is a gathering place for sharing knowledge and building community.
